Check out the DEFRA website: http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quarantine/pets/other.htm

It sounds as though you may be able to import reptiles.

I'm getting a baby boa this week, so I looked it up.  Here it is: http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/int-trde/animl-im/q&a.htm#reptiles
"Mind is the Master power that molds and makes,
And Man is Mind, and evermore he takes
The tool of Thought, and, shaping what he wills,
Brings forth a thousand joys, a thousand ills:
He thinks in secret, and it comes to pass,
Environment is but his looking glass."
-James Allen, "As a Man Thinketh"
