Need your advice.....
« on: December 06, 2005, 02:55:15 PM »
We are moving to Scotland (glasgow) next Summer.  My daughter will be starting Kindergarten. I am really struggling with the decision of schooling.  Part of me thinks sending her to school will be a great experience for her (we'll be in Scotland 2 years).  Then, there's another part of me that worries about her fitting in, understanding their accents, etc.

I know a lot of you have moved to the UK with kids, so I'm really looking for your thoughts.

Another thing I'm curious about is with her learning to read, etc, will the UK way of teaching/learning hinder her when we come back to the states?  I have read that UK schools are great and are actually ahead of US schools, so that is not my concern.  Mainly what I mean is since they pronounce things differently and spell things differently.

Anyhow, please share with me your experience and thoughts and how your child adjusted to school.

Thanks very much in advance!!

Melissa

Children adjust.   :) Learning in a different accent for a couple of years certainly won't hurt her, and the exposure to friends and a different culture would be such a great opportunity.

The ability to make friends and be in a school environment, with structure and friendly teachers, could be really really good for your daughter, and may help her adjust even better/faster than you and your husband! She'll be plugged into the new world and just may love it. The accents and spellings at P1 shouldn't be a hinderance.
