Pregnancy Symptoms inherited?
« on: December 14, 2005, 12:12:06 PM »
My mom's told me she never had morning sickness with my brother or me and I haven't had any yet (although only 6 weeks along so a bit early) so I was wondering if anyone else has had similarities like this with their mom?  Also, she, my grandmother, and my great-grandmother (who had a child late in life, at like 45) all had to have c-sections.  I wonder if this is inherited as well?

Personally, I think we are all different.  My mother felt a little ill in the am, ate a saltine and was good to go.  Me, I was queasy from 11am till I went to bed from 6 1/2 weeks till about 13 weeks.  My mom had quick labor and delivery as well with both me and my sister.  We will see if that happens, but really I think it is all up to you and your body.

my mother never had a moment's sickness w/either my sister or me.  i, on the other hand, spent months w/my head down the pan w/both girls.

she had c-sections w/both of us - well, i was a repeat b/c my sister was breech.  my sister had one c-section and one VBAC.  lots of ladies in my family had c-sections.

i delivered both my girls vaginally - the second one after a short labour this past saturday.

my dad's dad, FWIW, had 6 children all at home after short labours.  4 in her 30s.  the last she delivered at the age of 47.

Neither my mother nor I had morning sickness.  However my mum claims to have been in labour for a total of only one hour !!! whereas I had 28 hours on contractions and about 20 minutes second stage labour.   Whether a c section is hereditary is probably dependent on the reasons for the c sections. If you come from a family of women with smal pelvises, you may be the same and need a c section for that reason.

My mom never had morning sickness but I had it for most of my pregnancy with Jack and with the other boys I had it for at least the first four months. And I wanted to add it just wasnt morning sickness it was all day sickness!   [smiley=puke.gif]

my mom apparently 'felt fine' the entire time, whereas i was as sick as a dog from about 7-13 weeks.

i guess i conclude that we are all different, but i also think that women who had their babies a long time ago have selective memories and forget the pain and bad physical feelings that go along with pregnancy. they just think about their kids... [i suppose it's a blessing that we forget pain, but made conversations with my mom a bit weird b/c she was so bloody positive when i just wanted to barf!]

good luck.

My momm never had any morning sickness with myself or my sister.  With my two boys and now with pregnancy, morning sickness is a constant theme for me. I think it is very much a person to person case.
