Fondue help....quick!
« on: December 31, 2006, 06:07:17 PM »
We were planning on making fondue in my new fondue pot tonight but stupidly forgot to buy the fuel for it. It says to use methylated spirit, which we don't have, but we do have white spirit. Does anyone know if we can use this alternatively??
Thanks

NOOOOOOOO, white spirit is the same as paint thinner, I just wouldn't do it. Try just using a bowl in a pot of water( like a double boiler ) not the same but at least you know you won't get ill.
side note... I've been looking for fuel for our fondue pot and haven't had much luck, if you find some could you let me know where?

I was actually about to call you and see if you had any.  :) Have you checked the cook shop in town?

We did it on the stove and used tea-lights under it. Worked great.
Thanks for the suggestions!

I found some fuel gel packs in a specialty kitchen shop in Stamford.  It was luck.  Last year i couldn't find any anywhere and we ended up doing it over the stove.

You can order it on-line as well.  I just forgot to in time this year.
