Mulled Wine
« on: December 03, 2005, 03:46:18 PM »
So my boyfriend is at a Christmas party right now having mulled wine, and seemed surprised that I didn't know what it was when I asked about it.  So he's decided that I must have some when he comes over to America in a couple of weeks...trouble is, he has no idea how to make it!

Anyone got any good mulled wine recipes to share?  Tips on making it?

You can usually find mulled wine spice sachets, that you simmer in the red wine.... it's got stuff in it like cinnamon and clove and that sort of thing.

Google it.. it cant be too hard.
If you cant find spice sachets, you could just tie the spices up in cheesecloth or something like that.

Thanks all- I definitely do plan to google, but was just wondering if perhaps someone's husband's brother-in-law's aunt had a fabulous recipe hidden away somewhere ;)

I usually just buy it off the shelf.  Marks & Sparks is a delicious brand as well.

Roll on, Xmas!

don't have a recipie to share- but on Saturday kitchen a few weeks back they were talking about it.  the wine guru said to buy a cheapo bottle of red to use- more than fine.

Just tried Sainsbury's pre-bottled mulled wine (in fact, im drinking it just now!), and it's very nice.

In the US, Williams-Sonoma does a great mulling spice mix, albeit a bit pricey.  Penzey's does one of similar, if not better, quality but much more affordable (sorry - shameful plug for my former employer).

I found a lovely mulled wine spice set at Target a few years back.

I had some delicious mulled wine at a food fair a couple of weeks back, it was Hungarian and tasted like it had honey in it so when I make mine I'm going ot put honey in it, as well as cinnamon sticks, cloves, nutmeg and some orange jiuce.  I also like to make mulled cider - same as wine but without the orange juice.  So yummy on a cold day. mmmmmmmm
