UK Removal Company to NOT use!
« on: December 11, 2005, 03:24:13 PM »
Just thought I would give you a removal company to not use- either for UK moves and especially not UK to US moves. After the very bad experience I had, I feel I need to warn others. The company in question is 'The Removal Group'. They are based out of Sutton Coldfield (nr Birmingham). They advertise on their website that they do UK moves, office moves and international removals. I didn't realize it at the time, but they actually act as a 'go between' to co-ordinate any moves- they do not actually move anything themselves.

To make a long story short, due to their very slow payment to the forwarding company (and that was only after I contacted BIFA (British International Freight Association), we are just now receiving our shipment which was picked up in the UK on 28/7/05. We emigrated back to Nevada in August. Along the way, I was told by Removal Group that our stuff had left before we had, and as late as early September, was told that the shipment was in the Port of Miami on its way to Long Beach. The truth was....it was still in the warehouse in England awaiting payment before shipping! On top of that, we were told we had insurance for the shipment and up until we left the UK, I was pestering them almost daily for a copy of the policy, etc. I have since been told by the company that actually did the move that in fact, we don't have insurance whatsoever.

I should have known something was amiss early on, but I had already paid upfront for the removal so just pestered them for information, etc, along the way and ultimately dealt directly with the forwarding company (FWW Shipping in the UK and Marlog Cargo in the US).

The Removal Group has now been reported to the Trading Standards, BIFA and also BBC's Watchdog program. As of yet, no response has been received by any of the above groups.

So be forewarned!!!  Keep your fingers crossed the delivery on Tuesday is intact and all pieces are accounted for. Ours was part of a groupage container and can only hope that everything is there!

My experience with the Removal Group (UK to Australia) was very similar. I am now sueing them in the Small Claims Court and I advise anyone else who has had problems with them to do the same.

Please email me if you have had similar experiences. I would like to use this as evidence to build my case. Similarly I can give evidence for your case - we can build up a case showing a repetitive pattern of bad behaviour.

Here is my experience:

Removal Group - AVOID, AVOID, AVOID
===========================

Yes, they ring incessantly until they get the job, after that they move at snail's pace, never call back and rarely answer mails.

What can I say?

Abysmal, not cheap.....the full story is a long one and I don't have
time here, but if anyone wants to email me....

London to Perth - asked for 20' sole container, got groupage = 5 week
delay.

Wrongly advised me of arrival date = 4 weeks hotel bills in Perth

Use a "trading as" name then when you ask their real name (so you can
sue) they refuse to give it - this is an offence under the Business
Names Act 1985 (if anyone has this info, I'd appreciate it if you could send it to me by email: removal@qsf.com)

Damaged approximately 1/3 of my goods as they did not repack them as
instructed, nor was export wrapping (where it existed) adequate

Were supposed to unpack everything at destination - did not, only
larger items.

The quote for about 850 cu. ft from London was GBP 3550 - not
particularly cheap.

Try Excess International - I have used them in the past for smaller
shipments and they have been good - never tried them for a container
load. I did not use them this time because they were a bit unresponsive
during the quoting process - I definitely made a mistake using the
Removal Group.

Clearly they have no experience of shipments to Western Australia -
they did not even appoint a customs agent until 1 day AFTER my goods
arrived, despite having three months to find one!

They offered me (only after two weeks of threats of legal action) 250
pounds compensation! my hotel bills alone were double this.

Once again - AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!

PS Note they do not belong to FIDI or BAR - not surprising!

Thanks you guys for taking the time to let us all know about this company. I'm just so sorry you had to have the horrible experience of dealing with them in the first place.

Good Luck with your new exciting lives.
Joanne
