Spaghetti, or marinara sauce..
« on: February 21, 2006, 02:02:30 PM »
Does anyone have a recipe for homemade? One that's tried and true, I know there are loads on the 'net, but I would like one that somebody would swear by. I've always wanted to make my own, instead of buying, and I know there are a lot of people who like to cook on here. More than one would be nice too!! ;D

It is pretty straightforward and just requires adding flavors to your taste.

For a basic red sauce... I use a little olive oil to saute up garlic and onion. I've tired making it with fresh tomatoes here but the tomatoes I had were not so nice... so either a can of chopped tomatoes is nice or pureed tomatoes with water or fresh peeled tomatoes. mix it all up.... sugar to combat the acidity... oregano or mixed herbs is nice... salt and pepper to taste and ta da!!... that's a simple no frills version. You can add mince, or soy mince or different veggies like carrots or broccoli to make it take a different form.

good luck. [smiley=chef.gif]
