Gaviscon
« on: December 31, 2005, 09:53:03 AM »
I've just been told to take Gaviscon liquid 5 times a day to prevent the horrible gastric pain I've been suffering (oesophageal spasms - often mistaken for heart attack pains!).

Anyone else taken it as a preventative?
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Yes.  I basically lived on Gaviscon when pregnant with Molly.  It helped but didn't take it all away, I'm afraid.  Did you get the giant perscription bottle?

Get a prescription!  My Gaviscon consumption w/Aillidh must have soared into the hundreds of pounds.  I had a rolling prescription.

Like Mindy, it didn't take it away.  I did wind up on rantidine - Zantac - for which I also got a prescription.

Oh yeah, I've got the prescription! And yes, it's the giant bottle. I've already decanted some into a smaller pot to take to work.

See, I don't really have any horrible reflux or heartburn, I go straight from a little mild burning to full on pain and I'm terrified it will get much worse before this is all over. The pain is so bad when I have an attack that it can make me lightheaded and it's pretty hard to concentrate on anything else.

I never knew you could get a prescription! With both Coby and Jack I would have a bottle of Gaviscon next to the bed and I would just swig off of it as needed. I know it sounds gross but toward the end I the heartburn and reflux was so bad! In the end I would just sleep sitting up.

i used to swill it directly off the bottle - didn't bother pouring it out.

Yeah, I've had 2 doses so far and already the gloopy spoon is on my nerves. Next dose: swilling!
