Can anyone recommend any good diet pills?
« on: February 27, 2006, 02:54:28 PM »
I eat well and exercise, but my metabolism sucks! (since I quit smoking)  Can anyone recommend a good diet pill that works?

Or, do they all not work? That's what I'm starting to believe anyway.  Any good prescription diet pills out there?

My brother lost 26 pounds with Trim Spa (from the USA) - it's expensive but it does work.  I lost some on it too - but stopped taking it.

I think you can find it on Ebay.  It's the one that Anna Nicole Smith used.

I tried the trim spa and thougth it was crap!

I have done just about EVERY diet pill you can do

Reductil...Xanical...Phentermine...trim spa...Herbalife..............I have spent thousands of £££.........

Phentermine worked really well............but I was ordering it from the US and it was EXPENSIVE!

I did get my Reductile from my GP here......and the 1st time I used it I lost down to 15 stone...which was good for me but slowly put it back on.........

Xanical isn't worth it....the side effects are disgusting..........

Many years ago I tried Xenical and was absolutely horrified by the side effects. I think I lost 5 lbs from just being so disgusted by it that I couldn't eat for a week!  [smiley=puke.gif]

Uber_Yank, it might be worth checking in with a nutritionist to help find a diet and exercise plan to help increase your metabolism. There are certain foods that will help and if you are exercising, but not doing the right type, you may not get the results you want even if you feel like you are working your a** off.

Uber Yank, you don't say how much you weigh. Maybe if you eat well and exercise, you're at the weight you need to be? Worth a thought. I personally have not heard of any diet pill that works.

I´ve always been agaisnt diet pills..quimical would never be the same is that fresh air and excersicing, running, aerobics.. etc.. if you can avoid them please do..afterall it makes you loose weight but what about the skin muscles, someone has to then make them hard and strong, and pills won´t do that job.. they only make you loose water.. and pounds..not really safe.
sometime´s I have the feeling that it´s such a big marketing business going with people´s health on all this..just my opinion of course Carla. Good luck :) :)

I would urge against using any pills and potions unless there is a medical need to drop weight fast.  Your metabalism will improve with proper diet and exersize.  Look at the foods you eat, and fix areas where you can see troubles.  Cut snacks back, swap foods out for something healthier.

Muscle will rise your metablism...gain lean muscle!  Exersize!  Talk with a nutritionlist, or go to the web for tips and advice on healthy eating.  People who loose weight slowly by amending thier diet and exersice regime are more likely to keep the weight off.

Remember: it took you months/years to gain the weight.  It will take time to get it off.  Aim for 1-2 pounds a week by healthy eating, weight lifting and cardio.

Good luck!

haha if only that were true! I quit smoking and was on steriods for a sinus problem...end result? A 20lb weight gain in 1 1/2months!

I work out and am eating better, but really would like something to jump start my metabolism.  Thanks for the suggestions!

I gained LOADS of weight after being on high doses of Prednison (steriod) for a long period of time (for a blood disease).  Steriod weight seems to be easier to get rid of that food weight (I'd also quit smoking in the same time frame).  What I found worked was a simple plan of "no extras"; no butter on toast or potatoes; no sugar in my coffee; fat free milk and other dairy products.  Mixed in with diet and excersice.  I really lost weight faster than I'd have thought I would.

How long have you been off of the steriods?  They say that for most people, the side effects last 6 months to a year after you stop taking them.  Steroids also lower your metabolism, so it is very possible that once the total effects of the drugs are out of your system, you will see a higher rate of weight loss (and higher metabolism).

(One other thought with steroids, if you were on high doses for long term, you may be at a higher risk for arthritus (I have it now) and osteoposis; please forgive my poor spelling today!)

I've been off the steriods for three weeks.  I took Prednesone(sp?) as well :(  I felt horrible the entire time on it and last week my doctor told me I should go back on it, but I won't.  So, now I'm trying a steriod nasal rinse, which shouldn't get into my system.

My bet (after being on Prednisone 4 seperate times and having lost the weight from all accounts) is that you will start to notice changes soon.  Most of the weight is probably water weight which is a common side effect.  There are LOADS of support groups for people who are on or have been on the evil stuff.  (I have made the decision to never go on the stuff again.  The side effects were so awful, esspecially on the really high doses I was on (120 mg/day!!) that I was in total agony the whole time.)

Give it some more time before you think about diet pills.  Check out the 'net to see what other Prednisone users have said about weight loss.  You are young (25, right?) so you shouldn't have troubles.  I was 21, 23, 25 and 28 when I used the stuff (32 now).

Good luck, I hope the spray nasal rinse works for yoU!
