IRL question - does it ever expire?
« on: January 13, 2006, 11:05:51 AM »
i know this may sound kinda silly, but i am due to get my IRL this march..
once i get it, does it or can it ever expire? say if i leave the country (ie: move back to the US) or if i choose not to get UK citizenship.

thanks:)

ps: i'm behind on things lately with applying for my IRL, do you still apply within 6 weeks of the 2 year visa in my passport?

thanks again:)

Indefinite means indefinite - not fixed or limited in length, size, duration or quantity.  Ahhhh, beautiful Indefinite Leave.  No, it will never expire - I would suppose it could be revoked for legal reasons if one became a criminal, but I don't think that's a problem here. ;D

As for the 6 weeks...I thought it was between 4 an 6.  I need to know the answer to that, as well...as I will need to apply for ILR in the fall.
I was born in the Summer and at Night...my mother named me AUTUMN DAWN.  True story.

Jamie's...beyond the stars and past eternity.

EMAIL or PM me for information about gigs or about booking me (solo gig) or the band.

i was under the impression that it expired if you were out of the country for a long period of time (2 years?).  that's the main reason i will be applying for citizenship when my 5 years are up.

garry/victoria/more knowledgeable visa people???
If you harbour bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.

If you're out of the country for two years, it can expire.  They give you a little sheet explaining all of the legalities when you receive your ILR.

You can apply four weeks before your FLR expires.

You can't move back to the States and keep your ILR. I can't remember the details (although Lola is probably right) but you lose it if you give up your residency. I'm sure this is on their website.
