Hooking up UK printer to US computer
« on: January 17, 2006, 02:03:49 PM »
I quickly skimmed the Electronics forum to see if I could find someone in a similar situation.  If this has already been discussed...please point me in the right direction....

I brought the majority of my US computer equipment and accessories with me from the US.  I bought a transformer to convert the voltage and have a US power strip plugged into it and have all my computer plugs on the power strip.  The only thing I didn't bring from the US was my printer.  I'm in a situation now where I need to purchase one but am worried about plugging the cords (USB and whatever the cord is called that goes from the computer to the printer) into the back of my computer since I will be plugging the main power supply into a standard UK outlet.  Hopefully that all made sense....

Is anyone in a similar situation?  Will it be okay to connect everything in this way and not have my PC blow up or malfunction?  Any suggestions on what I should do if you think this won't work?

My American laptop is hooked up to a UK printer with no hassles whatsoever.  :)

Ditto what Anne said.  :)
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

Triple what Anne said.  I have a US laptop and UK printer...

No problem doing that at all.  The 120 or 240V power doesn't get anywhere near the data ports.
