getting married - then what? help!
« on: January 17, 2006, 11:44:52 PM »
Hey all-

I found this site through some googling, and it's been really helpful!  I just have a few questions, and I'm hoping you all can help.

I'm US, my fiance is British, and we're getting married next month.  I leave Thursday to move over there, and I have my fiancee visa and passport.  My question is when we get married, what next?  How do I apply to stay for 2 years?  Am I able to use the NHS right away?  How do I do that?  And what are ILR, LLR, and FLR forms?  Which do I need?  I don't remember reading about any of that when I applied for my visa, so I'm a little confused.  Any advice would be wonderful!

Thanks,
peachy

Hi --- it's all confusing isn't it? The fiancee visa was the most difficult part so don't worry! After you are married you will need to apply for your FLR (M) which is your further leave to remain. This will be good for two years and then you will apply for your ILR which is your indefinite leave to remain. Here is the site with the information http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/ind/en/home/applying/application_form.html

You are eligible for NHS immediately you simply need to call your local doctor's office and let them know you would like to register with them. They will set an appointment for you.
