Trouble Sleeping
« on: January 25, 2006, 02:34:02 PM »
For the last two weeks, I have found it difficult to sleep.  I soon will be 30 weeks along, so with growing tummy, active baby and heartburn, it just seems impossible to sleep well.  I was wondering if anyone has any advice to be more comforable or some relaxing ideas that might aide in a better night sleep.

Thanks

I know what you mean! I could never find a comfortable position for more than about ten minutes and the heartburn was the worst! ;)

I tried sleeping or lying down with several pillows put in strategic places. I would lie on my side with a pillow behind me, one between my knees, and another resting under my bump. That and listening to some relaxing music. It seemed to help a bit...

I know you can find or make those little pillows that are scented with lavender. I still use those on occasion. Very relaxing!

I wish I had some good advice regarding the heartburn. I used Gaviscon with both pregnancies. I have also heard that eating an apple or a bit of rootbeer can help.

Hope you are able to get some rest tonight! :)

I don't have any advice---can only pass on what my mother told me when I had difficulty sleeping during pregnancy. She said it is just natures way of preparing you for the many sleepless nights when the baby arrives :-). I know it doesn't help--but it made me smile.

I had a really hard time towards the end also. I was so big and the heartburn was unbearable. I used to lay in bed and cry because I was so tired. I used to sleep nearly sitting up yet on my side with a pillow between my knees. As big as I was the entire process took a good 5 min and no doubt as soon as I got nearly comfortable I would have to pee.   ::)   All I can say is lots of pillows and a big bottle of Gaviscon next to you for nightly swigs. Good luck!

i had a similar experience to pebbles.  the last 8 weeks - i delivered both girls at 38 weeks, thankfully - were just a slog.  i had wicked sinusitis w/roisin and found it hard to breathe.  i slept propped up on pillows and w/my pal gaviscon nearby.

hang in there!

I don't have any advice unfortunately... I was disappointed that my sleep-deprivation began way before the baby came along!  :-X

I had horrible heartburn as well to the point of vomitting. and I had to pee every 5 minutes on top of having horrible constipation.so I basically lived in the bathroom the last couple months of pregnancy :P

My belly was all baby so it was hard finding a comfertable position, I found it best to sleep on my left side. Also something that relaxed me at night is taking a warm bath..although getting out the bath with my belly was hard ;D

So far I've been quite lucky but one thing we intend to try when it does get bad is an air mattress. We have one of those big ones that actually blows up to bed height (easier to get off and on). The hope is that that will help with the growing size (since you can adjust the amount of air in it to make it softer or harder). And then just lots of pillows to prop me up if heartbun gets worse (along with the lovely peppermint glue!).
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Thanks all!!  I have been stressed these last two weeks, so I am sure that has not helped.  I fell asleep while sitting on couch today while Jackson napped.  I am looking forward to climbing into bed tonight, so tired!!  The extra pillows are in place :D

I did get a prescription of Gaviscon, I asked for it after reading one of Expat in Scotlands posts, so much better when you do not have to shell so much money out on all the bottles that are needed.

I was usually able to get some sleep with 2 pillow under my head, and a long body pillow.  Some times I put the body pillow under my head for 3 pillows, but usually between my knees and under my belly as I had very painful for the last 4 months.
