Child Benefit Fraud
« on: January 18, 2006, 03:21:57 PM »
Dale got a letter in the mail today from his employer informing him that he amongst a lot of other employees are victim of benefit fraud from someone within the company. The person took his name and national insurance number and applied for working benefit along with child benefit in his name. Its all settled now and under investigation. And we are going to enroll with this company that makes you provide a password if you want to apply for benefits or credit

But I am curious how they were able to apply for child benefit under Dales name without Courtneys birth certificate,is that even possible? or do you think they went down to the registry office, pretending to be Dale to get her certificate. Its freaks me out thinking they could have done this.

Don't know how they managed this.  We had to send Roisin's certificate.  And to get the birth certificate, Andrew had to take the hospital record we were given and show ID - either a passport or a UK driving license (he used his license).

Does he work for National Rail? This was just on the news today.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Thats crazy... Each time I went in and got a copy of her birth certificate for us,all we did we fill out a simple form, no ID no records no nothing!

I'll tell you how - because you only have to provide the short form birth certificate not the one with the parents' names on it.  So they could have used any old birth certificate.

All that makes me so angry, its so violating. You'd think they'd do a better job and see the red flags

We just found out they could've opened a bank account in his name as well. Does anyone know who he'd contact to see if they did open one?

Are there credit reporting services? Many US banls will check an individual's credit rating before opening an account. Is it the same oevr there? If so, the credit rating company will have a record of any businesses checking your DH's rating.

This is so terrible. I hope you get it all sorted out soon!
