I've done it a few times, and it's been pretty well received, although some people are confused at the concept of it after dessert instead of as an appetizer...  I just love the lingering at the table after dinner, nibbling on the cheese, sipping on the wine, getting lost in good conversation.

Some friends and I used to have a big dinner party every year to watch the Oscars. It needed to be a loooong meal so it would last (nearly) as long as the show! The last couple of years I was in the US, we added a cheese course and everyone loved it! Of course, they were all my friends so were all guaranteed to be cheese-lovers, anyway.  ;)

We use to get Swiss colony gifts all the time..anyways we use to have cheese and crackers and sausage on Christmas Eve with spiced apple cider...and I carried that on with my kids and now David says it isn't Christmas Eve without our Cheese and crackers and sausages.......... ;D

Traditions like that are great!

My Christmas Eve tradition is mulled wine - I just love it!  And it's my cousin's birthday, which we've celebrated together since we were kids. I try to make her feel special since it's always overshadowed by Christmas.   In our early 20's, we used to go out for a b-day drink or two before turning up at the big family Christmas party.

Since returning the US, she and her hubs and son come around to celebrate.  I make something different to eat every year, but always have the mulled wine.

I think this year I'll do a cheese board to go with the mulled wine!   :)

I love the Swiss Colony.  Whenever I received the catalog in the mail...I knew it was Christmas time.  That sounds like a delicious tradition.  One I may have to pick up when we move back to the States. :-)

I love cheese SOOOO much - always have! - cheddar, monterey jack, fresh mozzarella, smoked gouda, you name it.  And then at age 19, I was diagnosed as lactose intolerant.  :o   I've been able to build up a bit of a tolerance over the years by "saving up" the bit of dairy that I can eat before my stomach rebels and splashing out on a bit of cheese every now and then, but it's just not the same.  :\\\'(

(Funny story: during my sophomore year of college, my ex spent three or four nights a week at my apartment, and every night that he stayed over, I'd wake up in the middle of the night violently sick to my stomach.  At first it seemed like a coincidence - I was fine other nights - but then it got to where I was almost convinced that I had developed some sort of allergy to my boyfriend!  Once I finally saw a doctor and he asked about variations in my diet, it hit me - practically every night that B stayed over, we'd make dinner together (often homemade mac and cheese, or mashed potatoes with lots of milk and butter, etc) and we'd each wash down the meal with a couple of glasses of ice-cold milk.  No wonder I was sick every time he stayed over!)
