Yeah Britwife you are right - I was in those big malls with the western shops.  Unfortunately for us we are vegetarians so we couldn't really sample a lot of the local food.  But one thing - did you see this - we noticed was at these middle eastern restaurants we were at, they would bring a tray of a head of lettuce, lemons, tomatoes, and cucumbers and a knife.  We had no idea what to do with this strange pre-dinner food until we noticed people were taking the knife and cutting up their own little salads.  So after a few times of this, we just did it as well.  It was definitely odd and I've never seen it anywhere else but cool in its own way!

Also yeah it does help to have people to show you around.  This job my husband got was set up through his ex-girlfriend who was basically with him the majority of the time...hmm, perhaps that's why I didn't like it?   ;)

I can see how that would put you off a place!! I'm vege too, maybe I just got lucky.  My friend took me to one of the big hotels that had this lunch buffet, I think it cost equivlant of £10 - anyway it was divine - all kinds of mezze and lots of it was vegetarian - dolmeh, little stuffed eggplants, various beany things. Oh it was so yummy! Mind you I just realised it was 3 1/2 years ago so my memory may be playing tricks on me a bit by now.

I would love to go on a Fam trip to Dubai...

I am doing a honeymoon for someone to the Maldives and they are doing a stopover on the way back in Dubai......

Only thing is Dubai is a massive construction site at the moment with them building Palm Island I & II, and the World Islands.........and alot more new hotels......

my good friends did a one night stop in Dubai on their way to the Maldives.  From their pictures and stories the place sounds over the top!  I also watched a show on discovery channel (mega structures) all about the palm islands.  Insane!
I would love to spend a week in the Maldives though!! 8)

This honeymoon is costing them £5,128.00 for both of them

it is on Velidhu Island on a all inclusive in a water villa and at the Oasis Beach on half board. Flights with Emirates.

Not to mention, in Dubia, you might see a strange man walking around with a glittering glove and a veil!

Here's one trip you wouldn't want to do if you were a vegetarian:

The horses are beautiful.  Oh, no hot showers.

I would love to travel Mongolia & stay in a ger (or yurt)... But, I don't know if I could withstand the food and the fermented mare's milk...and I've never ridden horses much. :-\\\\  But it's one place I'd really love to see before it becomes fully Westernized.
