Helen, how did your friend do the research?  I'd do the same just not sure where to start. (Not true, I will be looking at which.co.uk)

Sorry. Turns out her "research" was just talking to her sister and another friend, both of whom have babies/toddlers. Oy. She does tend to exaggerate! Here I was picturing her up to her elbows in magazines and websites! But she did get her buggy-type 3-wheeler pram thing on eBay and got a great deal. I know that's not ideal for all you city-slickers, but for out here in the country, it's perfect for the beach, country walks, etc.

Modified because I found this site: http://www.thinkbaby.co.uk/defaultGear_new.asp  Don't know if it's any good, but it's worth a look!

My good friend just had twin boys a month ago. She went to Mothercare and ebay for everything. They got some great bargains on ebay.

Just curious, where did you shop for baby?  We need to start looking for cribs, strollers, etc.  A friend of Rich's said he found a place in London that did it all.  (Waiting for him to ask about it, but it could take a while, I'll keep asking though)

Does the UK do their own version of Consumer reports?  I would like to see comparisons to all the different baby items out there.

Thank you!

we are on the same wave-length! i was wondering the same thing, good thread. thanks!

Thanks for starting this thread, Stacey!  There's not a lot that we need to get for the new baby,  but there will be a few things, and these are some great ideas of where to start looking for things.

It can be really overwhelming picking out all of these things!  We ended up going to a Babies R Us (in the US) and just wandering around for a while trying out all of the strollers, high chairs, etc.   :)  I know in the US, there was a great book called "Baby Bargains" that I always recommend to people, as it gives reviews of brands and products and tells you where you can save money, but I'm not sure how much of it would also apply to the UK.  I spent a lot of time reading reviews on amazon.com, so you might be able to do that for some of the products that you are looking at.

I agree with the people who say not to buy too much to start out with.  If there are things like bouncers or swings that you want to get, see if you can borrow to try it out from someone you know.  Ellen loved both, but I've known babies who hated swings, and then the parents were stuck with this big, expensive piece of equipment.

A friend got this cute little hat that reads, 'Made in Edinburgh' and a babygro that reads, 'Made in Scotland'.

Do you know where your friend got them from?   ;D

Bugaboo . . .yawn.  So ugly, even kids laugh at them.  I went to Halford's the car shop and noticed they were carrying unique, spectacular buggies.  We got one there.  Soooooo cool and different.

.. what did you get? I'd love to see your spectacular buggy.

Ebay is great for picking up bargains. I'm selling so much stuff right now getting ready to leave and my daughters baby clothes are just flying out the door, it's great but sad all at the same time.

Expat - Where are you with this 'Spectacular Halfords Pram?' Would still LOVE to see a picture or get a name so I can look for myself ;)
