Expat what is a buggy pod?

It's like a sit-down chair that attaches to a buggy.  So the child doesn't have to stand but can have a wee seat.

I have one of these and I LOVE IT.  I wouldn't use anything else.  They are so versatile and easy to use, the kids are comfortable (and yes the baby in the back can see what is going on!).  They can take 2 babies, a baby and a toddler and two kids up until the age of 5.  You can stick the extra seat on the back, or lay the main seat down and put a young baby in that part and stick the extra seat on top.  It is lightweight and easy to steer even with my 3 year old and 1 year old. I have no problems getting around shops or anything.

I have 3 kids age 5 and under and I have used side by side and tandem doubles and they were miserable.  I would definitely recommend the E3 by phil and ted if you do a lot of walking.

I sound like a commercial don't I?  :-[  Oh well.   ;D

oh I've seen those ..My favorite is the one on the bottom kicking the carp out of his brother on top..which is what Jess used to do to her friend in the tandem buggy :P
But never fear, gentlemen; castration was really not the point of feminism, and we women are too busy eviscerating one another to take you on.

yeah, i saw a kid doing that.  also the bottom kid couldn't see.  i'd kick someone up the backside over that, too.

what also put me off was the price tag.   :o  i thought, 'b*gger that!  i'll get this maclaren and use the difference to go on a mini-break w/my man.' :D

I could be wrong, but I think it was a wee bit cheaper in Jojomamanbebe.

I am due to have the baby in late March and Jackson is 2.5, so I think I will need to come up with either a double stroller or some sort of solution.

I have one and it was a lifesaver!  I was against buying a double buggy in the beginning. Before my Jonah was born, we bought one of those sit/stand buggy boards.  We tried Sophia on it(she turned 2 just before he was born) and she loved it.  I thought 'great, problem solved'.  Gave no more thought to the double buggy.  Until I used it on my own.  Jonah was 8 days old and we ventured out for the first time just the 3 of us.  We went to one of our playgroups and she sat on the board like an angel.  Then, feeling rather pleased with our success, I decided to stop by Tesco on our way home.  Just as we entered the store, Sophia figured out that there weren't any straps holding her on, and she was off like a shot.  She ran up and down the aisles yelling 'no mommy!' and laughing her little head off.  I chased her down eventually and got her back on, got home and broke into floods of tears.  Thought we were never going to be able to leave the house again.  My neighbor came by the next day with a used maclaren double (£20 from a charity shop) and I haven't ever loved anything so ugly so much.  Now that she'll be 3 in April, we use the buggy board, but for the first 6 months we used the double almost daily.  End of novel!

So was mine!

Think two's going to be it for us, too.  It does work out better for the transatlantic family in some ways, tho, b/c you'll never be 'outnumbered' on those long flights  :D.

I love our double buggy, too.  I think when you have a smaller age gap it's almost a must.

Can I put in a plea for someone who doesn't have kids...please be mindful of others when you use the double buggy.  I've been almost pushed off sidewalks, had one shoved into the back of my knees, couldn't get down the isle of a bus cause it was blocked (and the mother was rude to me to boot)...I love little ones and if I have kids in the future I'll probably use one...but please be mindful of others around you cause those double buggies are HUGE.  Hope this doesn't offend!

No.1 child was 2.5 when No.2 came along.  I went to look at double buggies and the sales assistant took one look at him and declared he'd never fit (He was a big boy).  So I used a baby sling for the little one for about 6 weeks and then made the big one walk.  He got over it. ;).

It depends on the child.  Aillidh didn't walk till she was 22 months, and if we 'made' her walk 1) we'd never get anywhere - she likes to stop a lot and dither about 2) we'd spend half the time dragging her along the pavement.

If your child isn't yet a big walker, or you need to get somewhere fast (e.g., w/both strapped in the buggy), then by all means look for a double.

Aillidh is incredibly tall, nearly 40 inches now, but she still fit in the Maclaren Twin Traveller.

It's also great exercise to push the two of 'em.  I mean, the weight will fall off!

As an alternative to a double stroller, especialliy if your older child likes to walk some of the time, you might consider getting a baby backpack thing, they are good til the child is about 40 kilos (well depending on how much weight your back can take of course!).  You can get them in shops that sell camping and hiking gear. We have this one:

Jackson likes to be his own boss, so still being able to strap in and go some place is a good idea, plus I would love the weight loss benefits ;)
