Does anyone know any good catering companies for weddings?  Any good websites to find them?

Try this: http://www.weddings.co.uk/  If you click on "Products & Services," there's a section on caterers.

If you're looking for a recommendation from someone, can you let us know where in the UK you are? (I'm still single -- damn the BF! Grrrr! -- but I'm sure others will steer you in the right direction.)

Perhaps even a restaurant that serves a bunch of food we can just pick up and serve ourselves.  Not sure who can do that.  Can't find a webpage for any restaurants.

We're getting married in Aldershot, which I believe is in Hampshire.

I used these guys: http://www.heriot.co.uk/

It was nothing super fancy, but our reception was quite laid back so I went with the paper plates and cold finger-food type options. The food was really good though and the delivery people were right on time and very nice....

I'll vouch for Anne's food being yummy.  Although, cutting her cake was a ROYAL PAIN.  lol  :)
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

Ahh, but the cake rounds came from M&S and a friend made the flowers for them.... So you can't even blame difficult-to-cut cake on the caterers. LOL.  :D

This stuff looks relatively cheap and pretty good.  Problem is, we want it completely vegetarian.  If they can work that out, I'd be very happy to go with them.

*edit*

Nevermind...found the vegetarian menu...but I don't understand the price chart...is that per person?

Yes, it's per person.

Attach the word "wedding" to anything and the prices go through the roof....  ::)

Yeah.  That's way too much.  I can't work for 6 months and he's not exactly Mr. Rich.  So, we're probably stuck with the giant sandwich idea.

I just thought I would add my 2p after my df talked to me last nite about a possible place for the reception...they went to his grandmas 90th birthday party at a pub very close to where we are getting married that has a conservatory and does receptions, at about 15 quid a person...not bad considering the place we are planning to get married wanted 28.

df is vegetarian and they have at least a few options there from what I was told, so as soon as someone can get me a name (he had no idea hehe) I will be checking it out :)

Good luck!!

Another little cost-saving tip.... Check with local football and cricket clubs. We had ours at a football club and they didn't charge for the room rental - just £20 for each of the bar staff and we could choose how many people we wanted on the bar. We ended up with three. From what I can tell most clubs will do that - give you the room for free. The only downside is that they're usually not particularly attractive rooms. But I hired linens and bought a load of vases and votive candle holders at Ikea and it looked quite pretty in the end....

Anne, my fiance is a HUGE footie fan...if he knew we could do that...lol ;)

I was just informed my future in-laws are paying for the food *huge sigh of relief*..his family has been soo generous and amazing, thanks to them we will have the catering paid for and a honeymoon  ;D And there was talk of his grandma giving us a lump sum....I wasnt even sure what to say to D after that info...theyve just been so wonderful.

But we are still not off the hook finding catering ;)
