Is BA cargo really stopping PETS????
« on: August 16, 2006, 12:09:35 AM »
:) Hi folks..well We are in our 2nd month of quarantine and I called up BA to see how much it was going to cost me to get my two dogs over to the UK. The lady on the phone said it would cost $380.00 times 2 cause of 2 dogs for BA Cargo and yes your reading this right $380.00 but then she continues to say that BA will no longer be dealing with PETS for much long, which I didn't really understand. So now I am in a panic cause I'll be leaving out of Denver which doesn't give me many options on how to get my 2 beloved best friends over to the UK with me. I just hope all of this is for nothing. My Husband is over there now getting things sorted out with a house/flat that will accommodate the 2 dogs. Please tell me this lady was out of it and she has no idea whats she's talking about. :-\\\\ :-\\\\

Not from what the website says:

http://www.britishairways.com/travel/askbainter/public/en_us?p_search_text=pets

Those pages have been up for awhile, so perhaps not conclusive evidence of them not stopping the program :(

I hope it's not the case... we've been anxiously awaiting October when we can bring my cat over!  If it does happen, what you CAN do (to my understanding) is book a SEPERATE flight from Denver to another city (such as Atlanta).  From that second city, you check them in for a PETS approved flight.  I've heard something about the fact that you should make sure that Denver -> other US city should be completely seperate so when they look at your paperwork, it looks like you've been on a PETS approved route.

If I'm wrong here, will someone please set me straight?

BA wasn't a DEFRA-approved carrier from Japan, which was a bit boggling... maybe there is something going on.

I'd just keep in constant touch with DEFRA and James Cargo.  Just hope you don't need a shipping agent!

I'd call again.  Most likely you'll have to call a BA cargo company anyway to find out the details.  It seems to me the person didn't know what they were talking about because the quote they gave you seems way too low.
I got a quote (for my small 17lb dog) for $900 to fly on BA (from Chicago).  I'd think you would end up paying (depending on the size of your dogs) a LOT more from Denver.
That's why I went with BMI...I only paid $565 and they took care of my baby VERY well.  He was so well adjusted when we arrived, no one could believe he has just flown all that way.

In any case, I'd call BA cargo, because I highly doubt they are not doing PETS anymore.  Its a money maker for them.
