Questions about medications and NHS.....
« on: March 02, 2006, 12:04:22 AM »
Okay, I'm going to my Doctor (in the States) next week to ask about anti-depressants.  Long story short, if I get on a medication here, will I be able to keep taking it in Scotland?  My doctor and I had spoken about me taking Wellbutrin before, but I'm a bit nervous to start taking something now only to find out in May that they will not prescribe it to me.
Should I be concerned about this?

You shouldn't have any trouble getting a prescription in the UK once you arrive.  Just have your doctor write your new GP a letter about what you're taking and for how long, etc.  When you register with a surgery, you'll have to meet with the nurse for a history and then make a second appt to see the doctor so make sure you have enough pills to last until you can get in to see the GP.  Make sure you know the generic name of the drug as it will probably be different in the UK (except Prozac which is the same).

Don't know about the Ortho but I'm sure it's been talked about on the forum before.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

Due to other posts, some people have had difficulty obtaining Wellbutrin in their area.  I will look for the link or perhaps someone will post about the issue.
