in reality how long will it take?
« on: February 27, 2006, 06:12:27 PM »
Im wondering..we are pretty close to finally getting it all done...but the timing of it all leaves a lot to be desired. My ex is leaving for WI the 9th, leaving me w/o my own transportation. So by the 7th or so Im hoping I will be making my trip to Chicago to apply for my visa. After that I have to stay with my parents, because theres no way I am staying in my house alone with no phone, no car, nothing. Not to mention no one around I know for miles.

Enter my mother. She is GREAT at putting fears into my head and did her best to do so the other day. She said theres no reason for them to give me this visa, that them denying me before means they will do so again etc etc etc...and then she tells me it could take a very long time to get my visa.

Then today she tells me if its gonna take awhile I better get a job while I am here. I dont intend for it to take more than hopefully 10 days after applying before I am on my way to my fiance. Maybe a bit longer, because if they do just have the one ECO my visa will have to be mailed after they get a different ECO in.

Someone please tell me the visa wont take a long time....I am almost thinking going to Chicago is a waste unless they are willing to schedule another ECO to come for my appt...but I highly doubt theyd do that. Is it still worth going in person if all they will do is tell me they cant do anything until they have another ECO to look it over?

I just want this over with..I want my visa and I want to be on my way over there :(

Please calm down!!!

From all the things you have posted on this site it sounds to me that your application stands an excellent chance of being approved, and of being approved pretty darn quickly!

Try three things....

1)  Take lots of deep, calming breaths...
2)  Have a drink (vodka is best, camomile tea if you don't drink!)
3)  IGNORE YOUR MOTHER!!!!!  ;D

You are, I am sure, going to be absolutely fine!  I am keeping my fingers and everything else crossed for you!

Awww, Aeonix! It's so so hard not to stress about all the visa stuff but try not to! :)

Unfortunately, most mothers aren't very supportive of their children in these situations. She's probably sad that you're moving so far away and that she won't be able to see you as much and she's probably really worried by the fact that you'll be so far away. I've learned from reading these boards that a lot of mother's place guilt on their kids for making the move and others will even go to great lengths to try to sabotage the whole thing! This is probably her way of trying to discourage you because she doesn't want you to leave.

Hang in there. I'm sure your application will go through just fine. And, when you arrive in England, make sure you keep in touch with your mom lots for awhile to let her know that you still care and that you're doing okay (assuming you want to).

thank you guys.. I needed that  :o

My mom has been...really bad....I mean verbally abusive beyond belief. But I literally have nowhere else to stay until I go so I will have to deal with her. My fiance is encouraging me to keep in touch although I really dont want to...I will just so she doesnt have anything to use against me..and shes also raising my niece, I really do want to keep in touch with her.

I dont normally drink but a nice strong one is sounding good about now ;) Or Ive always wanted to try a margerita (sp) ;)

Im off now to watch a movie and forget the visa for a bit...mostly anyway ;)

Thanks again you guys...hopefully soon I will get to post my (successful!) visa story on the other thread!! :)

What is an ECO??

Entry Clearance Officers...they're the ones that handle visa applications at the consulates.
Now a triple citizen!

Student visa 9/06-->Int'l Grad Scheme 1/08-->FLR(M) 7/08-->ILR 6/10-->British citizenship 12/12
