need two appointments for visa? (NYC)
« on: April 14, 2004, 05:45:42 PM »
i promised myself no visa jitters until next week when i start preparing my application and documents but while looking thru another site, the notion was raised that if i am to make an appointment online for the NY consulate for supplying documentation for my spousal visa, if my partner is coming with me (and he is), that he will need an appointment too. i have found nothing on the consulate's website supporting this and was wondering if anyone else has dealt with/heard of this.
(i'm trying to save myself a long phone call to the consulate's, but will make the call tomorrow should nothing on this turn up since i will be booking my appointment on the 16th for april 30th.)

anything on this would be appreciated...
(*not jittering, not jittering..*)  [smiley=sweatdrop.gif]

to anyone who reads this question i've posted, i wanted to respond to it with the information i was given today when i called the consulate in NYC -

i explained that my spouse will be accompanying me and if he needed a separate appointment as well - after spending a few more minutes on hold, i was informed very politely that my partner will NOT be allowed to come upstairs with me for the actual appointment when i will be supplying my documentation, etc. (so, ultimately, only one appointment is needed.)
hopefully this helps anyone else out who might be wondering about this...

more questions from me soon...

Hmmm...he won't be allowed upstairs with you????  They must have made a lot of changes recently!

Seems odd that the UK partner isn't allowed upstairs....you'd think they'd want to talk to him, too.  They sure did when I applied for my spousal visa!

i thought it was strange too! but i was told it was for security purposes that he would not be allowed up (to keep the number of people in the office down.)
i dread going upstairs alone!  [smiley=anxious.gif]

i figured they would want to speak to him too, since when i called the consulates earlier i did point out that he is a british citizen...*shrugs*

the sooner the day for my application comes, the better!!

Don't be too nervous about getting the visa.  It really is a painless process and, looking back on it, I worried about it more than was really needed.  Just make sure you have all of the documentation they request and be honest.  They just want to make sure you're not planning on sponging off the state!  ;-)

(check out my webpage for my spousal visa experience...maybe it'll calm your nerves a bit!)  :-)

It's a tiny space, really.  I can see why they want to keep the amount of people down.

Before we went, I also called the embassy and was told that my husband would not be able to come upstairs with me....he came upstairs with me. This was 15 March 2004.

i've been reading that the applicants partner may or may not be allowed upstairs (i wonder how they determine this?) - in your case, i am glad that they allowed your partner with you :)
with us, i will be hoping they allow my other half up with me, but i'm going to be {mentally} prepared that they won't be allowing him up..(if this makes any sense at all!)

thanks=)
