i finally opened a bank account today!!  here's how it went:

went into barclays first...the chick told me that i need to have a national insurance number.  i told her i applied for it, but haven't gotten it yet.  she said i could come back when i had it and they'd open a current account for me.  i said thanks...and walked out.

WTF????  Of course you do not need an NIN!!!  How ridiculous!

Seriously it is just pathetic.  I hate that feeling when you know something and the stupid 'person in charge' doesn't but you have no option but to accept what they are saying and move on.  Grrrrrrrr

Thats strange, when I went into Barclay's the woman wouldn't even look at me.She continued to look at my husband the whole time and refer to me as "the madam".  We walked into HSBC and they sat us down and got one opened immediately (with my husband's help) and told us that we are eligible for a certain credit card and a loan amount.  They were perfect for us.  I have a friend from Romania who walked into Lloyd's and they told her she would never get an account in this country!  She walked into HSBC and they were kind enough to help her out as well!
