Yep the stainless steel helps to get rid of garlic odors... but it's not perfect.  I cook with a lot of onions and garlic and I still have the smell on my fingers sometimes.  I use a bar (interestingly CarolynB -made with coffee grounds) that I bought at the Eden Project.  It's called cooks soap.

I'll have to check that out next time I'm at the Eden Project! The BF and I go fairly often. Thanks for the tip! :D

Concerning the rubaway bar, I've read countless times to rub your hands with a stainless steel spoon to get rid of odors. Makes sense, as the bar is made of stainless steel.

It works :) You may need to rinse your hands once and do it again but it really does get rid of the smell, Im not sure what it is about stainless steel that does it..but hey if it works who cares ;)

gots to try that stainsteel trick...

suppose I can eat less fish now as the mad boffins say that oily fish don't help the old ticker, regarding the brain, well that may be a lost cause

I was in the fish mongers today and got to chatting with them. I asked them how they cleaned the fish smell from their hands. One old lady slipped in the back and returned with what looked like a heart shaped piece of metal. Yep stainless steel and they all swore by it.

Thanks peeps
