I just recently read that when measuring the conservatory area you need to account for 25 cm on the depth and 55 cm on the width if you have a double skin brick dwarf wall. Does that sound about right?

I assume you're referring to the fact that the permitted size is based on external dimensions, and thus when planning internal space you need to allow for the thickness of the walls and roof.

The typical cavity wall has two layers of bricks, each about 4 inches deep, with a 2-inch space between, so 10 in. would indeed be about the right allowance for each wall.

Hmm DW is trying to veto the conservatory idea and just go for a nice patio/decking option, d'oh!  I suppose it would be cheaper.
She did point out that our back garden is north-east facing so we tend to get sun on one side in the morning and the other for a bit in early afternoon but it's quite a bit darker than a south facing garden.  Also, the chap next to us (we're in a terrace) has an extension so it would be just wall on one side.
Still, this is good information in case we go ahead in future or have one for a new house.

Thanks.

Hiya!

well we DID get our planning permission, but for the slightly smaller 4x3m plan rather than the bigger one I wanted, oh well..

Apparently they're here tommorow to start on the base - so fingers crossed in about 2-3 weeks we should have our conservatory!

The back of the house faces south, so it's going to be an oven in the summer!

I'll keep you lot posted on how it comes out! Fingers crossed there's no nasty surprises!

I wouldn't mind a play room for myself!  Setup a ping pong or pool table  ;D

Oh lord, you'll have a visitor by the name of Jamie on a regular basis if you put in a pool table.  ;)

At long last!

After alot of faffing about by the conservatory company, almost at the stage of going through small claims court, they've pulled their finger out and as of yesterday afternoon our conservatory is being built!

All I say is, try going for a convservatory company that has some recommendations, we 'chanced' it with this one, they do have a nice large advert in the local papers, and right up until organising a date for initiating work they were fine - only us trying to pin them down to a start date has led to utter frustration!

I do have some space for a Pool table in it! not so sure me mum will be happy if I put that in ! it'll probably go up for our staff members at the warehouse!

Can't wait till it's finished!
