Am l the only one???
« on: September 20, 2002, 09:47:37 PM »
Other day l found some Reese's peanut butter cups at a local store and got all excited that l wanted to shout it to the cashier and everyone around me! Then l went back a couple of days later and found Reese's pieces!! Again l wanted to just jump up and down!! But l figured they would call the police after me and put me away! And after all this is Northern lreland and well you just don't do things like that here!  :o :o :o :o
I also finally found Miracle Whip, Bisquick and welches grape juice and just went balistic when l got home "look honey Miracle whip!!"  [smiley=goofy.gif] [smiley=wacko.gif] [smiley=wacky.gif]  Oh and my beloved Bagels!!! Sainsburys have some that are just out of this world...straight from Canada!!!!!  Fresh too!!
And then when l got my order from Cyber Candy well............MMMMMMMMmm Aunt Jamima Butter Syrup!!!!!!!!   [smiley=wacky.gif] [smiley=wacky.gif]
Dear Hubby thought l went off my rocker!!

Ok so does anyone else get goofy when they find something from home?? Or is it just me and l need a shrink!??   [smiley=wacko.gif]

you are NOT the only one!

heck, i even bought frosted pop tarts here when i rarely eat them at home.

you're talking to someone who brings an extra bag on trips to the US to pack the lovely groceries to bring back here.

i got so excited at selfridges seeing libby's and hershey's, my hubby says i look at groceries here like tourists at buckingham palace.

Oh thank goodness l am not the only one!!!   ;D

Even on the ferry when we moved over here l bought a bacon cheeseburger from Burger King on the ferry, and when l took the top bun off l saw the loveliest piece of bacon!! It looked just like our bacon at home and l turned to hubby and said " oh look American bacon" and proceeded to show it too the two guys who were helping us move!! I think they wanted me commited!!

I do get a kick out of Tesco's though they sell things that say American style!! NOT!!!  lol

have you tried their (or anyone's, for that matter) 'American Style Cookie?'  Don't do it!  All I can say is do - not - do- it!!!  To put it mildly if you were standing on the sidewalk (pavement) and dropped one, it would probably crack the cement.   :-X  Other than Millies of course, which can I just say, do not claim to be 'American.'

I so look forward to the days when I'll get excited over seeing Miracle Whip.

Seriously, it's those little things that I can't wait to experience.

Yes, but I was going through a severe American cultural withdrawal at the time. (Plus I hadn't done much shopping, so hadn't eaten for about a day and a half.) So I was truly thrilled. Of course, now I've gone to more grocery stores and found that Pringles are immensely popular here - not quite what I was expecting, but definitely a good thing.

Ok, Joseph. :)  Now, just pretend I'm your mother for a minute, because I'm going to give you some MOM advise.  Next time you're shopping, buy bacon flavour crisps or tangy twiglets or whatever takes your fancy.  Go down the pub with your mates.  Drink cider or whatever it is young people drink HERE these days.  Put away those Buffy tapes and watch the Office, and triggerhappy tv, and some great British comedy.  You're in a foreign country!   :)  What an opportunity! :)  Enjoy it! :)  Alright, taking off my Mom hat now.   :)

Drink cider ....

NB: "Cider" in the UK is always "hard" cider, if it doesn't have alcohol it is just apple juice.

But take care, if cider is your thing, as it is often 6%-8% alcohol, compared to 3.5%-4% for ordinary beers and 5% for strong (eg "import") beers!
