I Looked but.....
« on: April 04, 2006, 12:44:05 PM »
I can't find any past info so my question to those in the know is this: What exemptions (if any) can I claim on my U.S Taxes (State or Federal)? My only sources of income are from 2  U.S Government pensions, one is a  tax-free military disability pension, the other a typical  (taxed) GAO Government pension (U.S.P.S). Been living here for nearly two years and have no U.K source of income and am  still a resident of Mass. for tax purposes.....can I claim any U.S exemptions being a home owner here......very, very tax inept to say the least but I'm due to head out to a military base here next week to get my taxes done. Should I file Married Filing Seperately? Am I entitled to any deductions just for living here? Any help out there?........Thanks in advance.

The short answer is, yes.  The pensions are probably exempt from UK tax under the UK/US double taxation treaty because they are from the US government.  You need specialist advice on this issue however...
