Grape Vs. Blackcurrant
« on: November 17, 2011, 11:48:55 AM »
I don't know about anyone else, but is anyone missing Grape as much as me? :( I feel like our Grape is replaced by Blackcurrant in the UK. Which if it were up to me, blackcurrant is the not even close to being enjoyable! I miss everything grape, and I have searched high and low for grape ANYTHING! Skittles purple ='s blackcurrant. Gum Drops Purple ='s Black currant. Basically everything that is purple here, is black currant. ): This might sound strange, but I think that blackcurrant smells like Cat pee... lol My husband loves it though, and I love grape! When he was in the US with me, he would not touch anything grape, and now that I'm here I wont touch anything blackcurrant.

I miss Kool-aid!

You're right about Blackcurrant replacing Grape flavour in the UK.

I'm the other way around though, I love the blackcurrant (the purple Starburst and Skittles are my favourite) and I can't stand the US grape flavour :P.

I think it's probably what you grew up with though... I grew up here in the UK with Ribena and blackcurrant sweets and I love them. I didn't taste the grape flavour sweets until I was 12 and visited the US for the first time and I really didn't like them at all.

I was so disappointed when my aunt offered me sparkling grape juice in the US, which I love in the UK, only to find it was the awful artificial US grape flavour rather than being more like white wine but without the alcohol :(.

Oh! Speaking of PB&J! I made my husband one of those, and he absolutely hated it! His whole family thinks the idea is crazy! I couldn't believe that not many people have had PB&J from over here! When my husband asks "Why?" I think the better question is "Why not?" Whats not to love! Especially if its Welches grape Jelly!

I'm in the same camp as ksand24. Love blackcurrant and hate grape, because it's what I grew up with. What I don't understand is why grape-flavoured stuff bears ZERO resemblance to the flavour of real grape. Like it or not, at least blackcurrant tastes like blackcurrants.

ETA: PB&J is a concept created by the devil.  ;)

Aw that is my favorite! The welches sparkling White grape juice! My sisters, cousins and I used to have a few bottles every New Year, because we were too little to drink alcohol! But we would just pretend we were as cool as the adults!

I disagree. I like blackcurrants, but I don't think Ribena really tastes like real balckcurrant.  I also don't like fake grape.

You can get real sparkling grape juice in the US pretty much everywhere.

I'm okay with blackcurrant now, but it took a while. I really miss grape still. I still forget every time I get a bag of Skittles until I bite into a purple and experience a mild disappointment.

It's funny that you liken blackcurrant to smelling of pee. Most people who dislike the grape flavour say it's like vomit.  ::)

My first exposure to black currant flavour was LemSip and I can't stand the stuff (black currant or lemsip).  I don't particularly miss grape flavour but wish I didn't have to avoid anything purple. I always fish out the black currant skittles and feed them to anyone else.

I'm British and grew up with my ribena and all things blackcurrent. I do like grape stuff in the USA though, just not as much as my blackcurrent.

And I adore PB&J sandwiches once I realised it didn't mean jello. Course I prefer a nice natural peanut butter not the overly sugared stuff and I like real Jam not jelly but it is still the same concept. :)

I do not understand the fascination of American medicinal products and Cherry flavouring. That is a flavour I can't abide. It's gotten better over the years thankfully, when I first came here cough drops and throat sprays were only in cherry flavour *gag* Gimmi good old fashioned british honey and lemon :)
