Just getting started
« on: April 05, 2006, 06:46:01 PM »
Ok we have started to get things going now. We have a check list and gonna actually book Jays flight to come to the states to visit and hopefully get married. Now I have all these questions in my head.... Will he need to apply for something with the consulate or the embassy first before we book the flight or will he just need to fill out the card on the plane and go thru the scanning process with the eye and finger print when he lands?? I think once he has come here and we have gotten married everything else -Thanks to this site and all the helpful hints- will not be any where near as stressful as i thought it would be a month ago when i first got back to the states. But would hate to book the flight and then find out we missed a valuable first step.
Thank you for anything anyone can contribute!!!

As far as I know, he won't need anything as a visa, if you are not planning on staying in the States.  He can come and get married, but he will have to go back to the UK, and hence YOU will need a spousal visa.  Someone correct me if I am wrong.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

Suzie is exactly right.  He comes over as a visitor, you get married, then you apply for a spouse visa to go back to the UK.  Simple as that.
Now a triple citizen!

Student visa 9/06-->Int'l Grad Scheme 1/08-->FLR(M) 7/08-->ILR 6/10-->British citizenship 12/12

Thats what I thought but I just wanted to make sure! Better safe than sorry and with a online community that has been there and done that I figured it best to ask first before booking the flight. Thanx!!!!

whats this about an eye scan and fingerprinting? My df was in the US in Sept-Oct and as far as I know didnt do that..have they since implemented this for anyone coming to the US from a foreign country? Just curious since Id like him to be able to go in July if finances allow, would be nice to know ahead of time instead of 'surprise you have to do this now!'

I've seen this done since late-2004 at least.  Perhaps it hasn't yet been implemented in all airports?
