ILR Documentation - Is this enough?
« on: May 09, 2006, 04:00:48 PM »
As of August 14, I will have completed my first year in the UK on my spouse visa. I am currently putting together my packet of documents for when I apply for my ILR. This is what I have for Year 1:

HSBC bank statements (my name) x 2
Halifax bank statements (my name) x 2
BT bills (my name) x 2
Pay slips (me) x 2
NHS letter addressed to me
UK Provisional Driving Licence (me)
Council Tax bills (joint names) x 2
Gas & Electric bill (joint names)

Total: 13 items from 8 different sources in a combination of my name and joint names

*Note: I didn't include documents for hubby as he has loads of stuff sent to him so assembling stuff in his name isn't a problem.

For Year 2, I assume I will just have basically the same stuff just dated from next year. Will this suffice? Am I missing anything or have I compiled my documents incorrectly? Advice would be greatly appreciated!  :)

If you have these documents spread throughout the year, it looks good to me.

Does the year begin from your FLR date (as opposed to the date you arrived in the UK on a fiancee visa)?

Also, she's got 2 from the same institution for 1 year, and is hoping to use that same institution again for the second year? Please confirm this is OK, because  I have been stressing thinking I need to have a wider range of letter from different senders. What a relief if you can use 4 from the council spread over 2 years, for instance.

For this the year (well, two years actually) runs from the date she switched her fiance visa to a spousal visa.  Though if she goes for naturalisation after three years this will run from the date she entered on her fiancee visa.  Nice and straight forward then!

As long as the letters are from two different sources overall then I don't see why she can't use the same sorts of docs for both years.  If she were relying solely on letters from the council then it wouldn't be acceptable, but if there is stuff from elsewhere then it is fine to use, for example, your council tax registration form for both years.

Whoops, should have clarified this point. I never had a fiancee visa. We got married in the US and I obtained my spouse visa immediately after from the British consulate in Chicago and arrived in the UK the next day.

I just assumed the date in my one and only visa (spouse) is the date I should be going by.

The date you go by is the date you arrived in the UK, not the date the visa was issued. Not that it really matters in this case, though it would if you hadn't come over for a couple of weeks.
