Question re: computer/monitor power cord US to UK

Hi, I am setting up my US computer and monitor here in UK. I have switched the little voltage switch on the computer from 115 to 230. However, there are the two heavy black power cables that go into the computer and monitor, with the US plug and each one has the following written on them:

10 A / 125 V / 1250 W (monitor)
10 A / 125 V (computer)
 
I have some three prong adaptors to convert from US to UK format. But my question is whether there is a risk here of running too much power through a US cord and adaptor, and would it be better to just buy a whole new power cord with a UK plug. If the latter, where is the cheapest place to get a good one?

The cords will be fine with an adapter.  The 10A rating is the maximum the cord will handle safely; the computer and monitor actually draw only a fraction of that. 

They're marked 125V because the NEMA plug is the type which fits 120V U.S. outlets, but standard U.S. cords are actually rated to take 300V maximum anyway. 

Have you checked that the monitor will run on 240 volts?

Thanks for your reply Paul_1966.  That takes a load off my mind.  The back of my monitor (based on memory since I'm at an internet cafe) says 100-something to 200-something, so it seems as if it should work here after I plug the cord into the UK adapter.  Is that correct?

Many of the latest monitors have a switched-mode power supply which will automatically adjust to a wide range of supply voltages.   Older types, and a few current models, are single-voltage only though, so double-check the markings before plugging in, otherwise you could be in for an expensive mistake!

So long as it's marked something like "100 to 240 volts" or "90 to 250V" etc. then it will be fine.
