Agencies?
« on: May 14, 2006, 12:39:10 AM »
I was wondering if anyone had any idea if there were websites/agencies that catered for US citizens wanting to work over in the UK (putting people into known employee gaps)?

My boyfriend is just out of college and wanting to come over and join me (can't do the study or marriage thing - long stories!) and is desperate to get over and be with me.

His field of expertise is computer graphic work, photography etc but he's willing to do just about anything to pay his way.

Please help!! :D

if your boyfriend is just out of university/college, he would be eligible for a BUNAC visa which entitles him to move to the UK for six months & work.  not permanant, i know, but may be worth a shot.
If you harbour bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.

I hate to rain on your parade but seriously, the chances of him getting a work permit with his education and experience are nil.  You're going to have to explore other options...like marriage or studying.  I know it's not what you want to hear but I don't know of anyone with a work permit who didn't have a bachelor's degree or was in a highly specialised field with loads of experience.  He can continue to go to uni in the US and after he graduates, try his luck or at least come over on a BUNAC visa for six months.  Without being in a shortage occupation, he won't get a work permit.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

I agree with Kristi and meggles- based on the info you've provided BUNAC (http://www.bunac.org) would be his only option right now.  Six months is better than nothing, and then when that's over you might be in a better place to consider further options (such as marriage.)
Now a triple citizen!

Student visa 9/06-->Int'l Grad Scheme 1/08-->FLR(M) 7/08-->ILR 6/10-->British citizenship 12/12

I am afraid that the folks here are right...

Basically without a huge amount of skills and work experience an HSMP is out of the question.

The only "non-skilled" jobs that are currently allowed under the Sectors Based Scheme, and again only temporary, is in the food processing business (fish, meat and mushroom).

You can read all the gory details at: http://www.workingintheuk.gov.uk/

And of course there is the BUNAC as already mentioned.

Thanks for all your replies ... final nail in the coffin I guess, but nothing that I hadn't already expected.  Guess we're just gonna have to be long distance loves for a long, long time to come :(

He could try for the Training and Work Experience Scheme (also detailed on www.workingintheuk.gov.uk), but it is a tricky one to get into.

Sorry, but why could he not get the BUNAC?

The tricky part is that it is for people from developing countries.  AND it is being wrapped up into the overall MM programme...
