Immigration application - letter from employer
« on: May 15, 2006, 12:57:52 PM »
Hello,

Me again (sorry).  I am almost at the point I can send my application across to my fiance for him to add his bits, but I am having problems with the letter from my employer.  I work for the NHS, but we are in the process of merging with another trust which could lead to job losses.  I am guarenteed a job until March 2007 (although I am looking to move to a better paying post now) and for all I know I may keep the post I currently hold, as such however my employer is reluctant to write me a letter to say I am employed as she feels it may harm my application, so she has left it to me to write.

I am under the impression that if you have a substantive post within the NHS, as an employer they have to try and relocate you to another post of the same grade, so I should still have a job, just not with the same part I am with now.

Can anyone give me any tips or pointers on how to word my letter?

Many thanks,
Lau

You should write a letter anyways, but I would say you really need a letter from your employer, stating the facts, that you are currently employed and what your wages are.  The future, for anyone, is totally irrelevant, we could all lose our jobs tomorrow.  I don't see how that harms anything to make a statement about your current situation.  The IO isn't going to sit there and think, "Oh I heard about all of this NHS considation stuff and I think she might lose her job."

Your letter needs to focus on your sponsership of your fiance, how long you have known each other, that you have met in person before, that you intend to marry, that you can support your fiance without incurring any access to public funds and describe your job from the perspective of how long you have been there, who it is and how much you make.

Thanks for your advice, the place I work is the most finickity place I have ever worked, they make things so complicated.

I have already written my letter of intent, and I am making my other half write one too.  My family have also written to say that they have seen the relationship and support it.

At the moment I just want it done, it has been an ongoing saga for the past 4 months now!  It will be worth it, but it's been hard work!

It is probablly going to be a lot easier then you think, but at the same time, it is a huge peace of mind to be overprepared and you never know what 1 thing might cause problems.
