Moving back to the UK
« on: June 01, 2006, 05:23:56 PM »
Hi,

My wife and and I both live in the US. I am British and she is American. We have been married for three years. Does anyone know if we can apply for her visa whilst still living in the US even if we have no immediate plan/date to move to the UK?

Thanks

As you have to use the visa within three months of the date of issue then there is probably not much point until you have firm plans.

My husband is british and I'm US, we've been living in the States for almost 4 years and are moving back now.  The good thing about the UK visa process is that it seems to take about a week for most people by post, and a day for most people if they go to the office in person.  You could get your paperwork together now and then apply once you know what is happening.

Thanks - can I still apply even though we do not have a UK address yet?

Some people get family or friends to write them a letter stating that they can stay at their house.  They have to provide proof that they own the property or a letter from the landlord stating it is ok.  And I think they have to actually have enough rooms in the house for you.  I sent my husband over in advance to get a job and an apartment/flat/house (he is staying with his parents).  This was the best option for us since we can't afford to both be jobless at the same time.

I'm not sure if there is a third option.  Someone else should know.
