help help help with spouse visa please
« on: May 25, 2006, 09:17:20 PM »
Hello everyone,

Hope you all are well. My husband and i gotmarried last week yay. so we are filling in our spouse visa form and we got stuck on a question.

1. my name.

Do i put my name as i am known or do i put my married name ( Ive taken my husbands surname)?
on my passport i haven't changed  it yet so i don't have my married name on it and on our wedding certificate i have my unmarried name to, what should i write?

2. known my any other name.

if i do put the name that I'm known by in the above question, do we put my married name in this section or just leave it?

i hope you can help me, our appointment is coming quite soon and I'm a little nervous.

thank you kindly

Lilly :)

Put whatever name you want to be known as.  There is a section for your maiden name anyway, if you choose to put your married name, but they will issue the visa int he name on your passport anyway, so it really doesn't make a huge amount of difference.

Whatever name is on your passport is the name that needs to be on your visa application.

If you are going to change your name on your passport, use the expedited service and FedEx it to their location.  I got mine in 3 days and applied for my visa with my married name.

Known by any other name - your maiden name and any other married names you have had

Not the case.  But as I said, they will issue the visa in the passport name anyway.

Complimenting Vic's advice, there's no set rule about it.

My advice:  when you fill out a form for the Home Office, or any other form of whatever nature in the UK, you use the name you intend to go by in the UK, and that's that.  Use the name you want to be called by thereafter full stop.  Our guvvies have the sense to sort it out.

This is not a rule, it's just good practice.

I filled mine out with married name.  My visa was issued in my maiden name as I had not yet changed my passport  and the accompanying letter from the home office was addressed to my married name.
