Passport for baby
« on: June 04, 2006, 11:02:02 PM »
I'm not sure if there is a post about this already but... Do I need to get a passport for the baby??  We have plans to travel to Portugal in July and baby is due in a week.  I don't know if I need to have a passport of not.  Can anyone point me in the right direction??

I'm living in the UK as an EU citizen and was thinking she could get a UK passport because it would be easier/faster.

UK rules say she needs her own passport, but you may want to check with your embassy to see if she can just be added to yours.

Is her father British, how long have you been here, and do you have a resident's permit?  Whther she can get a British passport depends on these things.

The father is British and I've been here for 1 year.  I don't need a visa or residency permit because of my EU citizenship (thankfully!!).  I have dual citizenship, US and Portuguese.  I'm just trying to figure out which would be the quick and easy option.  I'm hoping it's getting her a UK passport.  Thanks for the advice, I need to do a bit more research!

Yes, it is getting a UK passport.  I just wanted to establish that she was entitled to one, and she is.

Although you don't need a resident's permit, many EU nationals get them, as it can make the process of naturalisation easier.
