Worried and Waiting
« on: May 20, 2006, 10:55:43 AM »
Hi, my fiance had his fiance visa interview in LA yesterday. We had loads of paperwork ( all compiled in the space of a week!) but because he had been refused entry into the UK last week, they said they couldn't give it to him there and then that they needed to check with customs in Glasgow, to verify if their record of events mirrored his.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and what the outcome was.  The waiting is killing me, and him,  he Hates LA and now has to spend the weekend there in scummy hotels!!

No, that is typical when entry is denied.  It can take a while for them to shore up the stories as well, but it is a lot better then spending the time in immigration holding in Glasgow...  Nothing to do but wait.

I have just spent the weekend scouring this forum following the outcomes of those in similar situations to our own, I have to say it has offered me a glimmer of hope in an otherwise pretty  bleak period. I should have done this before I posted but when you're anxious you tend to react first and think later.

We now realise that the only thing we can do is wait and hope that what happened in  Glasgow won't affect our application.

One thing I wanted to share based on our experiences has to do with dumbly accepting advice.  We sought legal advice and  were informed by a solicitor that my fiance would be able to enter the UK on a visitor visa so long as we didn't mention anything about our wedding.  Assuming that as a professional he knew best we followed his advice, the result of which is the problem we are facing today.  I guess my advice for anyone in a similar position would be to 1. seek advice from more than one source ( forums etc) and 2. Being duplicitous never pays off.

I'll keep you informed as to the outcome of our case.

Sorry, mondo, as you can read in the forums, there is a lot of bad advice out there.  The "problem" is that it is usually far easier to go the right way then to risk any other way.  While it does cost some money, I wish people wouldn't give out advice like that to encourage people to be duplicitious.

Best of luck...  I am crossing my fingers that it works out for you.  I am sure it will!!!
