Traveling in the UK
« on: June 21, 2006, 09:15:01 PM »
Me and hubs are looking to go on holiday somewhere in the UK. We haven't had a holiday together before and really need a trip alone together sometime soon. Anyone recommend any place in the UK? We aren't the romantic types really. So it doesn't have to be anywhere romantic. I was thinking about going to the stonehenges but not sure yet

With baby or without baby?

Ocean or Mountains?

City or Country?

Active or lazy?

Warmer or cooler?

Without the baby! hehe

Not too picky about the ocean, mountains type of thing but would like it to be country, not a big city.Somewhere to relax really.  we'll probably go in late september, during our one year anniversary

The Lake District is gorgeous!  We went on our honeymoon, stayed in Windermere at the Howbeck  went on a really cool minibus tour with Mountain Goat and on different lake cruises.  Did a sail and dine recommended by our hotel and had a lovely time!

http://www.howbeck.co.uk/ - we stayed in the Windergill room.  The breakfasts are frickin amazing!

http://www.sailndine.co.uk/  that was the sail and dine we did.  They'd said they were retiring and it looks like they're trying to find someone to take it over.

Cornwall is beautiful! Nice sandy beaches.... We went on a riding holiday for a week in Cornwall and stayed in a B&B and just drove around some. We love driving in areas we have never been.  We drove down to Penzance too.  Our riding holiday was so much fun but we were so sore. I really wanted to learn about English riding so we got to go on trail rides, do a bit of riding school, groom the horses, learn to jump some basic jumps and at the end they let us loose on the beach to just ride away! It was so great!

I second Cornwall!  It's bound to be a little crowded now in summer, but that has the added perk of more things open/going on.  We went in spring & they weren't quite ready for tourists yet, but now it's perfect!  The beaches & weather there are gorgeous & the villages quaint & superb.  We stayed at a B&B right on the beach in St. Ives and it was remarkable!  you can eat great seafood for diry cheap & there's loads of beautiful places to visit (Land's End, St. Michael's Mount, etc.)

The Lake District is really nice.  So is the north Yorkshire coast. :)

You guys are brilliant! Thanks everyone!!!
It'll be a nice break. We haven't had time alone together since Courts was born and its much needed. We've both been so stressed out from work, being new parents and etc.
