World Cup Violence
« on: June 25, 2006, 08:25:09 AM »
I dont understand this.  All this violence over football.  Last night in Stuttgart, was just unnecessary.  Germany won over Sweden and England and German fans got violent.  Did any of you watch BBC news clips and see the little girl on her dads shoulders crying?   I think its really sad that children have to see this side of sports.  It seems like this is more common than uncommon, even though hubs says its not nearly as bad as it used to be.  Blah.

I wonder, if all those fans were sober...would it have been as violent?

The news here reported that English fans were "taunting" the German fans...that's what caused the violence...does anyone know if that's true?

Whilst never condoning any violence at football matches, can I just point out that all those initially arrensted were relseased without cherge and all those with tickets were allowed to attend the game.  It seems the arrests were preventative more than anything else.

The worst violence so far as been before the Poland v Germany game, but somehow it is only English trouble that ever makes the papers.
