Where would you recommend for vacation??
« on: June 21, 2006, 06:32:44 PM »
My husband and I are planning a trip next spring and are already arguing about where to go.  He wants to go to the south of Spain and take a day(or two) trip to Morocco, while I want to go to Turkey or Tunisia.  I'd even like to go to Greece.

I know Brits go to all these places, but I have heard that Spain is SOO busy with them and I really don't want to go to another miniUK.  Any recommendations?

I'd do italy, Greece, or Sardinia

I am very anti tourists as well....and i think in some of the places above if you do your homework, you can have a spectacular trip done right.

I'm partial to a lot of places, but Italy holds my heart.  The amalfi coast was great as is rome, tuscany, i could go on and on.

Just don't do milan. BLECH.

It depends where you go in Spain -- it's a big country with lots of different areas.  If you stay away from the busiest costas, it's an amazing place to explore! :)  We are hoping to do a trip to southeastern Andalucia later this year.

Seville, Cadiz and Jerez in Andalucia Spain are such nice cities.

Athens is a bit Blah.  A day or two to see the acropolis and the old part of the city is more than enough.  I hear the islands are amazing.

I loved Venice. We also went to Lido, an island off of Venice. One of my favorite places that I've ever visited.

Greece, hands down. A small island preferably.

Sardinia is high on my list too, but we haven't been there yet.

I love Venice, but I haven't been in a few years now.  I also like the south of France around Nice and Monaco.

As for the places you mentioned, my MIL goes to Greece at least once a year on holiday.  She usually goes to Santorini or Corfu, I believe.

DH has been to Turkey and Tunisia.  I know that he enjoyed them both.  He went to Tunisia with a girlfriend at the time, and while they were walking around a market, a local offered him money in exchange for her.  He should've taken in the money and split.  But anyway. . . .

My favorite country is Slovenia... mountains, city and seaside. Beautiful!!

Croatia is lovely too... gorgeous coastline.

Venice... recommend it as well.

I want to go to the Baltics (Latvia, Lithuania & Estonia) soon... but I fear it is mini-UK with all the stag and hen nights these days!! Perhaps in the fall!

A guy friend warned against Tunisia for a single woman friend of his. She went anyways and had a tough time... not to mention this was her first time out of Scotland!!  :o

We went to Slovenia for the weekend a couple of weeks ago and loved it. Ljubljana is a fun and beautiful city and the coast is great. Really good prices too.
