If most sexually active people have it, why is it not part of a standard STD screening programme?

b/c there isn't much you can do about it aside from having smears - again, these strains are different from the ones which produce visible genital warts.  Hence, hoping to get females vaccinated before they become sexually active.

Most of the time, nothing happens.  You can have it forever and never have an abnormal smear.  No one really knows why in some women, at certain times, the virus causes abnormal cell growth in the cervix which the body doesn't detect and destroy and/or cervical cancer, although it is known that smoking is linked with the development of cervical cancer.  It could be that in women who are already carrying strain(s) of HPV, smoking causes changes at the cellular level which lead to cancer.

oh is that how it works?  i was always so confused about how a virus can cause cancer.  i was like viruses get you sick, cancer is abnormal cell growth- but where's the connection???

is there evidence that any other viruses cause/linked to cancers?  i remember something vaguely about ulcers being caused by viruses and some ulsers can lead to cancer- am i wrong on this?
If you harbour bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.

whoever can figure this out is going to be very, very rich.  thousands of scientists and researchers are trying right now.
