CouchSurfing.com

Has anyone heard of this?  I recently came across it while reading an article in the NY Times and thought I'd check it out.  Looks like it could be quite interesting!  I'm usually pretty open to taking people in,,,my family always had waifs & strays coming by, some we knew, some we didn't.  I realise that caution is needed, but the site answers alot of questions concerning safety, etc., but overall it looks like it could be good fun....and maybe cheapo holidays!

Exactly,,plus the fact that you can learn about area through a local person rather than just a tourist book!  I think it has a lot of potential.

oh no...i was just getting ready to do a serious search for a couch for a possible trip i might go on next bank holiday weekend....when i got this:

Yes, CouchSurfing 1.0 is dead.  It was amazing and beautiful.  Thank you for making it what it was.  We are turning our eyes towards future possibilities.

It is with a heavy heart that I face the truth of this situation. CouchSurfing as we knew it doesn't exist anymore. We've had an amazing two and a half years.

I felt terrible when I saw the notice on the webpage!  I was speaking to my cousin in Oregon and he had hosted a few people through couchsurfing and had a wonderful time, so I was starting to think that this really could be a great idea,,,,aw, well.....maybe another one will start up.
