Somebody please help me!(looking for Visa options)

Alright, so the impression I've gotten so far in my research is that basically, as an American who is neither engaged, nor married, nor a student, nor a transfer employee of a multinational corporation, nor a family member of a UK citizen, nor a citizen of a commonwealth country, I basically am unable to obtain a visa that will allow me to work and live in the UK.

Is this true, or am I missing something?

Does anyone have any suggestions? How does someone like me go about getting a visa? Or better yet, a job in the UK that would grant me a visa?

I'm totally mystified...help!

Start applying to jobs with UK companies...that's how I got my work permit, I applied to a company that was posting for positions in the London office, got interviewed and then got the offer.  Sorry if that seems obvious but I think that's the answer to your question.

Yes, there is nothing to prevent you from posting your CV on Monster.co.uk, but you have to be upfront and honest that a) you would require a work permit and b) you are not currently authorized to work in the UK, but in certain industries work permits are easy to get.
