Are my eyes deceiving me does it only cost 85 pounds for a person  coming to uk with work permit?

I don't remember the whole process, but I think it was about $150 when it was quoted to me by the consulate, so £85 would make sense and their website seems to agree with that:

I take it you are pleasantly surprised by this? Most likely your employer paid the big money.   

Nah the employer didn't pay but was looking at the spouse visa so 85 pounds seems awfully cheap doesn't it?

Vicky that link you posted states that the work permit and work permit dependent visa cost $162 each.  At least that's what I think I'm seeing on there!

I was saying that I was surprised that the entry clearance was only 85 pounds.  And someone commented that my employer must be paying for it.  and I replied no my employer isn't paying for it but compared to the spouse visa prices it is cheap.

As clarification, have you been approved for a work permit through the home office yet?  If yes then EC is the 85  GBP.  But if you don't have a work permit arranged yet then that is a whole other process you will need to go through.  To be eligible for work permit you would need to find a UK employer who would be willing to prove that you have skills above and beyond any UK or EEC resident.
