Kitchen Aid Mixer and transformer/adapter sources
« on: July 07, 2006, 03:42:18 PM »
Hello,

We are moving over to the UK this August and I'm trying to figure out which appliances
I can bring (if any).  I'm very attached to my Kitchen Aid Mixer - has anyone out there had any success bringing one over from the USA and using it there?  I guess the other two appliances I was wondering about
are my toaster over and the blender.  Any stories?

Also, we were wondering if we should stock up on adapters/transformers here in the US before
moving or if we should wait and get things there.  Can anyone recommend a good place to purchase
these?

Thanks,

Fubear

Even with the proper transformer, I have damaged 110v electronics.  My computerized sewing machine had to have a complete expensive overhaul due to damage from running it on a transformer.  A friend brought her kitchenaid mixer over and it ran fine for about a year, then just died!  But I also ran a microwave and many other things for 7 years on a transformer and then took them back to the US and they ran fine for many years after that.    So it's up to you if you want to chance it.  In the future, as you purchase an appliance, look for a "dual voltage" type that you can just turn a switch and put a plug adaptor on to make work either 110 or 220.  You can buy 220 kitchenaid mixers over here - i've seen them at Selfridges.  And as in the US, they aren't cheap!  But to have that power, sure makes it nice!  Good luck and happy cooking!!
