To be honest, the possbility of weight gain is the main thing keeping me from doing the depo shot.  :-[  The bone loss .

As I stated before, the GYN completely ruled out Depo for me once I told her I'd been treated - and was being treated - for post natal depression.

I have a right knee full of pins and screws from an accident and next to no meniscus in my left knee.  ANY weight gain really hurts, so birth control that causes that isn't for me.

I am a nurse and patients have complained of weight gain and some have actually gotten pregnant while on depo.

Change of plan again..just spoke with my friend who was on it and she said it was bad. She had weight gain and bad mood swings, she said she would never recommend it to anyone.

Hopefully my doctor has heard of some new method that consists of a rum-based drink, has to be taken nightly and will cause no bad side effects.  ;)

Maybe you should just use condoms.
Easy, usually reliable, no 'insertion issues', no side-effects...

. . . no side-effects...

Unless one has an allergy to one of the elements used to make them (latex, or spermicides, or lubricants)
Stop waiting. Start doing.

Abstinence works!

No side effects, either!  ;)

I went on Depo when I was 17 years old.  Within five months I had gained about fifty pounds.  I eventually went off the Depo three months later, but it took two years (yes, it can take that long for side effects of Depo to wear off) for me to be able to lose the weight.  NOTHING would work.

I also got started to get horrible migraines (which I still suffer from today) and hair in places one should not get hair.

Obviously some people are fine when they take Depo, but I would never take the chance if I knew before what the potential side effects are.

I think if you are already prone to weight gain (you said you were trying to lose weight) that you may have more trouble with Depo as well.  My US OBGYN said she would never recommend Depo unless someone could not remember to take the pill as the side effects she has seen from Depo are horrible and happen more often than not.
