Wire transfers
« on: September 01, 2006, 02:41:30 AM »
Hi everyone

I am new to this board, my husband and I were wondering if anyone knew how much money you can tranfer from a bank in the USA to one in the UK. We know that the amount of money you can take with you when going on holiday is $10,000 but what is the amount that you can transfer from bank to bank without getting into trouble with it????

I'm moving this to money matters where it might get more views. :)
I'm done moving. Unrepatriated back to the UK, here for good!

We wire money to the UK all the time from our Washington Mutual account here in the US (wire transfers a free there!) and I can't remember what the limit is, but I know there is one. Or, not a limit exactly, but a point over which they might start asking questions. I can not for the LIFE of me remember how much that is though, so I guess this response was pretty pointless. :) Basically, I'd just ask them (on both ends) and see what they say.

Just don't forget that if you are either not domiciled within the UK or not ordinarily resident in the UK that remitting funds from the US to the UK can give rise to additional UK tax bills if the funds being remitted are not pure capital (eg the money coming to the UK includes US source interest/dividends).
