I haven't formally introduced myself yet, so hello all!

Just moved to London in July (my husband has been here since March) and recently discovered this site (thanks to someone on Craigslist).  I wish we had found it earlier, I can see what a huge help all of the information here would have provided.

Anyways, my husband and I finally got around to picking our football teams, for life as we have been told  :) I guess we just assumed that any pub with a television would be playing one of the matches on a Saturday afternoon so we walked around to a few of our local pubs.  None of them were showing any of them and one was just showing one of games later in the day.

We live in Belsize Park area and after going to 5-6 different pubs we finally found a pub in Camden town playing the Arsenal game (my team, not doing too well so far  :-[). Anyone know how to find out which pubs are playing certain football matches ahead of time?  Is there some kind of license involved with pubs being able to show the games?

Thanks!

Most pubs that shows sports advertise it in advance, on a blackboard outside, so it's just a question of keeping an eye out in your local area.  If it's Arsenal games you're after loads of pubs in Islington/Holloway show them, just take a walk along Upper St, Holloway Rd or Caledonian Rd.

All pubs with the Sky Sports sign will show all games on Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports Pay Per View.  These will be the midday kick off and 5.15 games on Saturday afternoons, the 4pm kick offs on Sundays' and usually a Monday and possibly Tuesday evening game.  Look at www.arsenal.com for the fixture list, and the Sky website for a schedule.

You can look at www.beerintheevening.com for pubs, and you can do a search for those with a big screen/showing sports.

What is the pub in Camden you are thinking of?  I am an Arsenal fan and know most of the pubs in Camden!

I should note that the guidance above is for pubs showing games legally; if you want tips on where to watch games on an illegal satellite feed, which means you could watch matches live at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon, you'd better send me a PM!

Ahh, very useful information.  Thanks guys!  I guess the best way is to just keep an eye out at our local pubs and possibly check out some places closer to Islington.  I can't remember the name of the camden pub.  We just kept walking down Chalk Farm until we found a place playing the game. It was some pub on Chalk Farm Road, not very helpful I know, but a larger place just down from the Roundhouse I believe.  If you have any rec's for a good place to watch Arsenal games in Camden I would love to hear them!
