We'll probably be inviting around 150 people (Roy still needs to get on this with his side of things), but expect many less than that due to travel and other considerations.  I'd love to invite more, but due to monetary constraints and wanting to actually have some time to enjoy myself versus greeting hundreds of people, I think this number will work!

We had 100 people at our wedding.  At the reception there was considerably more because guests from the other receptions being held in the hotel heard that we had an open bar. ;-)

I'm surprised how many are shocked at those numbers.  Out here, that is the norm.  It really isn't a big deal for me to hear a number that size.  Of course, we don't tend to have the formal, sit down, dinner-type receptions.  We have dessert and finger foods, and many receptions are held at church halls or gardens.  Guests come and go, only the closest friends and family tend to stick around for the whole thing.  Others just come sometime during a 2-3 hour span.  Greet the newlyweds and their families, eat, visit with others, and leave.  Some might have dancing, but many don't.  It all balances out fine.

I'm doing that with my reception, and our numbers are disproportionate because he isn't from here, but in the UK we are having a second reception that will only have 20-30 guests.  It will be a sit-down dinner at a hotel and more formal.  I only have two guests at that one--Dad and his wife.

We are getting married in London on 29 December and no one from either side of our families can come from our home countries of the USA and Australia, so we are only having 4 guests - two couples, one from each "side", so 6 people in total.

After our registry office ceremony, we are going to a local restaurant where H2B was a regular for 2 years, so it will be extra special for us as he knows the owners fairly well and they will be a part of the celebration afterwards (having a rest after serving us, they'll join us for the cake and champers bit).

our numbers have dwindled to around 65

It's mostly b/c those in the UK that would have come just don't want to travel to teh US to come to the wedding. It would have been similar for us if we had held it in the UK. I should have just said screw it and had it in the caribbean.

By the way, when I said we have most weddings with those numbers, I was referring more to the reception.  The wedding party itself is typically smaller.  I'm having 40-50 at the ceremony itself, then the reception is much larger.  That's pretty typical in this area.

We had 20 at our wedding in Half Moon Bay, CA.  It was perfect, even though a few of my friends were hurt we didnt invite them.  You just have to make decisions that work for you.  I didnt want to look back on wedding photos years from now and wonder "who the heck is that?"

Oh Wow!  Where in Half Moon Bay did you have your wedding?  There are some great places there like the Mill Rose Inn and the Ritz.
